BBQ, Friends, & Pearls in the Wilderness
Had one of those lazy, relaxing morn's. The kind where you just chill.
Showered. Shaved. Dressed. Ate some b'fast. Of course, this was more than just a little bit after the rest of the household was awake and had been stirring for some time. Hey! I'm the dad here - I can sleep however I durn well please. Thank you very much! Oh, yea, that is unless the woman desires something else... or one of the two critters bounces in askin' for somethin' to be done, fixed, repaired, moved, and/or just has a ramblin' meaningless question, as children normally do at that time of the day. Well, ok. At any time of the day...
So, after been moving about the house for a bit, decided to call one of our neighbors, talked to the lady of the house. Next thing we know, we've invited each other's clan to go to a BBQ place down the road a bit. So, the four of us piled into our minivan, drove over to their place, and then proceeded to head south along the ridge. After another bit, we made it to the place. Of course, I did have to make one U-turn, after I had to call the place to get redirected and to confirm their location, which of course before the U-turn was made was not in the same location as we were heading. Oh, well. So, after driving a tad more down a road that takes you deeper into rural, farm, and residential area, and we started wondering what is a restaurant doing out here, finally found the sign pointing us to the right, towards a house with a shed in the back. This is it? Yeap. This be it.
Long story not too much shorter, we had enjoyable meal - woman and neighbors had the BBQ, me catfish, and the munchkins had chicken fingers [ummm, make note not to have vivid imagination of picturing fingerless chickens unable to write letters... sad. kinda like the cartoon of the frogs in the wheelchairs, coming out of the kitchen door, under a sign advertising frog legs... warped? Me? ok, maybe some, but that will be another story for another day... :)]. Food was very good, altho' the BBQ sauce was thinner than what we are used to from the Ozarks.
Driving back, we decided to visit a place called Gorham's Bluff. http://www.gorhamsbluff.com/ Very scenic little "community", with a lodge, various cabins [actually houses that you can rent], walking trials, ampitheater, and one heck of a view overlooking the Tennessee River. Quite the neat little area - totally unexpected to find this kind of development, way out in the "boonies". But, like the restaurant earlier, never can tell just where you will find the better pearls.
Talked to a couple that had just arrived, who were from the Birmingham area. Discussed the view, Birmingham area, Alabama's schools, litter along hiways, food, and kids... yea... I enjoy meeting people and talking about various things. Well, as it was starting to get late, we hankered on back to the house. Dropped our neighbors off at their's, and then spent a evening playing X-box, after watching the sun set over the horizon.
Good day.
